Copper Hills - 19 Bingham - I Lost Count!

Sometimes as a coach you have to ask yourself, are we that bad or is the opposing team that good? The answer to that question today is Bingham is that good. Our team believe it or not played well. I will take this game over the Olympus loss any day of the week. We are the only team that has scored on Bingham this year and I think we earned a little bit of their respect. I am proud of my guys and Alta-Red better watch out.
Skyler played one heck of a game. I am so proud of him this year. DeEtte and I are especially excited because we purchased a new camera that will take great pictures of Skyler. We're really not very good photographers but we are hoping to get better as the months and years go by. Here are some of a few that DeEtte and I took today, we hope you like them! Enjoy!

Never Guarantee A Win!

You may remember in one of my posts last week I guaranteed a victory over Olympus last Saturday. My guarantee put me in the same company of people who have also guaranteed victory and then faild to produce the win such as Keyshyn Johnson, Gary Heart, Al Gore, Blue Edwards, that guy who said he could beat Billie Jean King and last but certanly not least Roudy Roddy Piper.
As you can see from the picture I was unable to back up my fightn words. I know, it was a stupid thing to do but I was rollin high and feelin mean when I wrote the post. Hell, we were ahead 13-0 with three minuets to go. Then, like a moth to the flame, Olympus made the in zone their best friend and on two short plays had tied the game. To overtime we go where the 4 minute nightmare got worse. They scored, we didn't. Game over! Nothin but green and silver 13 year olds running franticly all over the field, crying, screaming, power aid and fruit roll ups.
To say the least I am not going to guarantee a victory over Bingham this week.

RIP Jerry Reed 1937 - 2008

Yesterday was a sad day for me. One of my childhood idols and favorite country singer Jerry Reed passed away from emphysema. Born March 20th 1937 he began to play the guitar and sing back up vocals as a very young man in the late 1940's. I came to know Mr. Reed in the late 70's as the bandits side kick Cletus "The Snowman" Snow in the Smokey And The Bandit movie series. Although I loved Burt Reynolds and his black Trans Am, I was enamored with The Snowman, his truck and best friend Fred. I think that movie had a large impact on me as a young man and it put me on the path to being involved in the trucking industry in some way. His black and gold Kenworth W900 with the "Western Trailer" was the coolest thing I had ever seen to that point and it still is. I remember crying at the movie theater when I went to see Smokey And The Bandit 2 because they changed The Snowman's truck from the Kenworth to a GMC General. What a jip!

My favorite part in Smokey And The Bandit was when The Snowman gets beat up by a group of biker because of his dog and companion Fred. When he gets out to his truck he runs over their motorcycles. One of the best lines in a movie ever "whats she wearin now?". Just ask DeEtte about that one! Classic!
Jerry was one of the finest guitar players this world has ever seen. I can't say which of his songs is my favorite because I love them all. Amos Mosley, East Bound and Down, Man Like Me, Guitar Man, Legend Of Jessie James. They are all awesome!
His music has been there for me in the good and bad times. It has had a certain place in the background of my life and I have been very thankfull for that.

Keep the wheels spinnin and beavers grinnin! Godspeed Guitar Man, Rest In Peace.

Copper Hills Football

Well gang, two games into the season and were having a great time. We have played Park City and Brighton so far and we are at 1-1.
The Park City game was great. We scored on our first drive to make it 7-0 and that's the way the game stayed until the last minute. With about a minute and 30 seconds left in the game Park City had the ball on 4th down and goal to go on there 45 yard line. Yes I said 4th and goal to go on their own 45. Our defence was playing possessed and got three sacks for huge losses. Unfortunately they threw a bomb and well ahhh kinda scored. Copper Hills 7 Park City 6. The PC Coach decided to win it all and go for two points. You will never guess who made an unassisted tackle in the back field to win the game, that's right! Skyler! That's my boy!!!!!! Great job Sky.
Last Saturday we played one of our greatest rivals in Brighton at Brighton. We narrowly beat them last year so we knew they were looking for some pay back. We got the ball to start the game and they shut us down, we went no where. They got the ball and drove about 70 yards in 8 plays to score. Frankly, it looked liked it was going to be a blow out. Ah ye of little faith I say. Our boys said nay to the blow out and played a great game! We were within the 10 yard line on three occasions but unable to punch it in. Damn you gigantic Brighton D-Line! We held a very good team to 7-0 the whole game. Unfortunately on the last play of the game Brighton ran a 70 yard dive up the middle for the score. We held them on the extra point and that is how it ended. 13-0. Like I said, our boys played their hearts out and I have a feeling we will see this team again in the play offs. Only time will tell.
Next Saturday we play Olympus at Copper Hills at 10:30. I have already warned my team that as a Skyline alum and huge Skyline fan that we had better not lose this one. I have faith in my Grizzlies. We will give the fans a win on this one for sure!
